Bill Elmore – Board Member

 

In creating Foundation Capital in 1995, Bill was merely continuing his long history of building strong organizations from the inside. In addition to Venafi, Bill is currently serving on the board of directors for Onyx Software (ONXS), Wind River Systems (WIND), Atheros Communications, MarkMonitor, Packet Design, TeaLeaf Technology, Vernier Networks, Wherenet, Biz360, UxComm, SOLARFLARE Communications, SpringCM™, Quartics and Ambient Software.

Before Foundation Capital, Bill was a General Partner at Inman & Bowman for eight years, and before that, Bill worked as the president of Visual Engineering, a graphics software supplier, and in a variety of key marketing management roles at Hewlett-Packard.

As director and past president of the Western Association for Venture Capitalists, and in his role as a director of the National Venture Capital Association, Bill is actively involved in defining, serving and representing the interests of the venture capital and private equity industries.

In addition to an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Bill holds a BSEE and MSEE from Purdue University.

 

Skip Glass – Board Member

 

Skip joined Foundation Capital in 2007, and works to assist the firm’s portfolio companies and help in the assessment of potential new investments. He has more than 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur, investor, and advisor to dozens of successful software, networking, and security companies, including as CEO and President of URoam (acquired by F5), COO of Kiva (acquired by Netscape), VP of Field Operations at Illustra (acquired by Informix), VP of Marketing at Sybase, and trading area manager at IBM. He currently represents Foundation Capital on the boards of Venafi, SpringCM, MSDSonline, Guardian Analytics and Attensity.

Prior to Foundation Capital, Skip worked with Canaan Partners, representing that firm on the boards of Voyence (acquired by EMC), Groundwork Open Solutions, and VUE Technology (acquired by Tyco). As an early stage investor, Skip has invested in several technology startups including Sygate (acquired by Symantec), SleepyCat Software (Acquired by Oracle), eHealth Insurance (IPO), and Retention Education (privately held).

Skip has also used his entrepreneurial expertise in the charitable world, having participated in the funding and management of a number of organizations. He is a recipient of the J. William Brownsfield award for outstanding civic contribution. Skip holds a BS from Sacramento State University and an MBA from University of Arizona. In his rare moments of downtime, he can be found cycling, hiking, and vacationing with his family.

 

Jim Dreyfous – Board Member

 

Jim Dreyfous co-founded Utah Ventures (now Pelion Venture Partners) in 1986 and has been a Managing Director since its formation. After more than 25 years his passion for building companies continues. Jim personifies the Pelion culture and approach; he is active with business founders and directors, experienced in building and developing management teams, and adept at accessing strategic relationships to help companies to attract management expertise and capital at every stage of a company’s growth. Jim spent his early career in commercial banking, oil and gas production and distribution, private investments, and small business management. Jim serves on the Utah Science, Technology and Research (USTAR) Governing Authority Board where he was appointed by the governor and state legislature. Jim is a graduate of Middlebury College.

 

Greg Butterfield – Board Member

 

Butterfield, former president of Symantec’s Altiris Business Unit, is a true leader in systems management, bringing more than 22 years of executive experience in the software industry to his position as a member of the board of directors of Venafi. Many of these years were spent building IT service management businesses into category-leading giants, most notably as chairman of the board, president and CEO of systems management pioneer Altiris (acquired by Symantec in 2007). During his tenure at Altiris, the 2002 Ernst & Young Entrepeneur of the Year led the company to eight consecutive years of revenue growth and profitability, growing annual revenues from $3 million to $229 million.

Prior to joining Altiris, Butterfield served as executive vice president of worldwide sales at Vinca Corporation, where he increased revenue from $1.7 million to $24 million in less than three years and positioned the company to be sold to Legato Systems for $92 million in 1999.

Butterfield, who also serves on the board of directors of Utah-based tech standout Omniture, was chairman of the board of the Utah Information Technology Association from 2003 to 2005. He holds a bachelors of science in business administration, finance from Brigham Young University.

 

Jeff Hudson – Board Member & CEO

 

A key executive in four successful, high-technology start-ups that have gone public, Hudson brings over 25 years of experience in information technology and security management. Hudson has spent a significant portion of his career developing and delivering leading edge technology solutions for financial services and other Global 2000 companies.

Prior to joining Venafi, Hudson was the CEO of Vhayu Technologies Corp. Vhayu was the market leader for the analysis and capture of market data, and was acquired by ThomsonReuters. Prior to joining Vhayu, Hudson held numerous executive leadership posts, including CEO and cofounder of MS2, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development at Informix Software, CEO of Visioneer, and numerous senior executive posts at NetFRAME Systems and WYSE Technology. He started his career with IBM.

Mr. Hudson earned a B.A. in communications at the University of California, Davis.
