Former Symantec Group President Joins Venafi Board of Directors

Greg Butterfield to Help Systems Management for Encryption Vendor Extend Market Leadership with Proven Track Record Building IT Service Management Businesses

Salt Lake City, Utah – October 14, 2008

Former president of Symantec’s Altiris Business Unit (Nasdaq: SYMC), Greg Butterfield, has joined the board of directors of Venafi, inventor of systems management for encryption. Butterfield, former CEO of systems management visionary Altiris and 2002 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, brings more than 22 years of executive experience in the software industry to help Venafi accelerate its business of managing encryption across devices from the desktop to the datacenter.

“Adding one of the true leaders in systems management to our board is a tremendous win for Venafi, and speaks to the strength of the company and its vision,” said Trell Rohovit, Venafi CEO and Chairman of the Board. “Greg has a proven track record for turning young companies into category-leading giants, and we’ve already enjoyed his unique and fresh perspectives.”

According to Butterfield, Venafi has a significant opportunity to assist organizations looking to expand data protection through the use of encryption. “Venafi adds value by helping organizations streamline their operational processes for deploying and managing encryption—ultimately lowering the TCO for their security infrastructure,” Butterfield said.

Butterfield, who also serves on the board of directors of Utah-based tech standout Omniture (Nasdaq: OMTR), joined Symantec through the company’s acquisition of Altiris in April 2007. Prior to the acquisition, he served as chairman of the board, president and CEO of Altiris. During his tenure at Altiris, he led the company to eight consecutive years of revenue growth and profitability, growing annual revenues from $3 million to over $300 million. Butterfield was the driving force behind nine acquisitions and he successfully completed an IPO in 2002 in the face of a notable economic downturn. Butterfield most recently founded SageCreek Partners, a world-wide network of seasoned operating executives focused on accelerating business development, routes to market and capital strategies for early and mid-sized technology companies.
