VENAFI ADDS SUPPORT FOR SAFENET HARDWARE SECURITY MODULE (HSM)

New Feature Enhances Security, Facilitates Compliance with Strict Security Requirements by Keeping Cryptographic Keys in Hardened, Central Location

SANDY, Utah - April 2, 2008 - Venafi, inventor of systems management for encryption, today announced support for the SafeNet Luna SA, an Ethernet-attached hardware security module (HSM). Venafi automates and controls key backup and rapid key recovery to prevent system outages or loss of data. It also allows organizations to select the level of security that best meets their needs and policies by supporting software-based cryptographic libraries and HSMs. Adding support for SafeNet Luna SA further extends the options available to achieve compliance with the most strict key storage requirements and standards, all while leveraging existing technology investments.

Organizations around the world rely on the SafeNet Luna SA to secure applications, transactions and information assets by safeguarding the cryptographic keys at the heart of any encryption-based security solution. It offers network shareable hardware key protection and high-performance digital signing for critical security applications. Venafi integrates with SafeNet Luna SA to add further protection for the keys Venafi manages across enterprises.

"With the broad proliferation of encryption across applications, networks, servers, HSMs, and other environments, organizations need the flexibility to select different levels of security to balance operational and policy requirements," said Paul Turner, vice president of product and customer solutions, Venafi. "By offering support for hardware security modules such as SafeNet Luna SA, our customers now have more options for how they can secure their keys."

The Luna SA offers powerful cryptographic acceleration, hardware key management, and multiple configuration profiles for applications such as ATM machines and corporate servers, where security and performance are a priority. It features a tamper-resistant 1U rack-mount chassis, secure remote management, and scalable, upgradeable configuration options, including FIPS 140-2 Level 3 validated key management, 2-factor authentication, and multiple independent HSM partitions.

"Storing cryptographic keys within hardware security modules is vital for both protecting data and complying with the strict requirements our customers are increasingly encountering," said Chris Holland, vice president of product management, SafeNet. "Venafi makes it much easier for our customers to gather these keys from across their infrastructure so they can securely store them in our SafeNet HSM."

As part of its systems management approach to encryption, Venafi discovers, manages and controls encryption technologies throughout the enterprise infrastructure, including desktops, laptops, encryption appliances, web servers, application servers, and middleware devices, and interfaces with the world's leading certificate authorities.
