ServiceNow Automation for the Venafi Platform: Interview with Difenda

Machine identities are exploding, and attackers are looking to misuse them every day. Venafi is committed to enabling our customers to manage the entire lifecycle of their machine identities across their existing infrastructure. To support this effort, we created the Machine Identity Management Development Fund. With $12.5 Million, the Fund sponsors the development of integrations with the Venafi Platform over the coming years, accelerating the expansion of the Venafi ecosystem.

In just seven months since the Development Fund’s inception, eleven companies are building integrations with the Venafi platform. Many of the funded developers were present at the 2019 Venafi Global Customer Summit in Orlando, and I had the pleasure of getting to know them and learning about the exciting plans they have for the Venafi Platform.

In this second interview series, I speak with Jeffry Jacob who is Director of Cyber Advisory at Difenda in Canada.


Bridget: What does Difenda do?

Jeffry: Difenda is a cybersecurity leader with years of experience helping enterprises defend against cyber threats and manage security risks. We operate a 24x7 Cyber Command Center delivering managed security services and security incident response. We believe that Machine Identity Management is integral component of an enterprise’s security landscape. We are passionate about helping companies simplify the management of machine identities so that it can be used ubiquitously and help provide assurance over data confidentiality and integrity

Bridget: As part of the Development Fund, what’s the machine identity management challenge you are seeking to solve?

Jeffry: Most companies, without enough skilled engineers, struggle integrating new technologies with their existing service management and ticketing systems—including the Venafi Platform. These same organizations often must settle for two different workflow engines, requiring additional effort to train staff to understand and use the new workflows. And these workflows do not leverage the powerful Venafi Platform automation for provisioning.

Bridget: How does Difenda propose to solve this challenge?

Jeffry: Difenda wants to solve the IT Service Management challenge associated with managing machine identities. Automating the entire lifecycle of machine identities from digital certificates request intake to deployment and renewal is necessary to enable machine identity management throughout the enterprise.

Bridget: Describe the new world for customers when the ServiceNow module is complete.

Jeffry: With the Fund sponsorship, we are creating ServiceNow Automation module for the Venafi Platform. This will provide familiar ServiceNow request forms that can be accessed by all users within an organization without new training and workflows to automate machine identity request, approval and issuance lifecycle using Venafi Platform policy and automation. We want an organization to be able to effectively manage machine identities as part of their existing service management framework.
